Über eine Band zu sagen, sie klänge wie die frühen 90er, ist das
eigentlich ein Kompliment? Auf jeden Fall. Solange es nicht um Grunge
geht, versteht sich. Oder Crossover. Kate Mosh atmen den guten alten
Indie-Rock der ersten paar Jahre des vergangen Jahrzehnts, und das in
jeder Minute auf diesem erstaunlich souveränen Debüt. Endlich wieder
eine Band, die Bock hat entschlossen auf den Putz zu hauen, um dann
behutsam Schönheiten freizulegen, ohne an der Oberfläche in doofer Pose
zu erstarren.
Dieser Eindruck entsteht einerseits natürlich erstmal durch die Musik,
diese kompakten, schnörkellosen Minihits, selten über drei Minuten, die
ruhelos nach vorn sprinten und kaum Zeit zum Durchatmen lassen. Dieses
coole, sparsame, aber äußerst effektive Gitarrenspiel zusammen mit
einem kräftigen Schlagzeug, das bis zum Schluss nicht locker lässt und
dem Affen unentwegt Zucker gibt. Hier strahlt drahtige Eleganz, die
Musik wiegt kein Gramm zuviel. Und irgendwie dazwischen geklemmt steht
im Mittelpunkt der markante Rufgesang, der sich nicht zu schade ist,
auch mal die ganz große Melodie durchblicken zu lassen.
Andererseits, und das ist neben den tollen Liedern das große Kapital
dieses Albums, besitzen Kate Mosh etwas, dass vielen Veröffentlichungen
fehlt: hörbare Spielfreude, Frische, ungestümer Tatendrang.

Kate Mosh are breathing indie rock. Miniature smashers sans trumpery, rarely exceeding
the three-minute limit, are pitchforking benevolence into your head.
At last, the world is granted a band eager to shatter old layers of sediment,
cautiously uncovering loveliness in the process. A band that does not settle for
foolish and superficial posing.

When Kate Mosh talk about rock music, one may believe them. And trust them.
For it’s not about pose or facade. It’s about a fundamental view on things:
If the fuzz box is activated, it’s not so much because the chorus is at hand,
but it is the expression of an attitude in principle. Noise is a question of
mindset and a good many people are amazed.
Kate Mosh seek within the plain form and find. With admiration a time of lovingly
cultivated melancholia is being told of. And listening is worthwhile. One may find
that at a certain point the delicately interwoven and the coarsely planed can be equal
and equally enchanting.

Gegründet Ende 1999 von den zwei ex-Bielefeldern Micha und Thom wurde
in der damaligen Grabesstimmung des Indierock ein Programm erarbeitet,
ein Demo aufgenommen, Konzerte gespielt. Die selbstveröffentlichte EP
»Flash Gulash« wird herausgebracht. 2001 läuft Kate Mosh auf Radio
Fritz, ein Video wird gedreht und etablierte Clubs in Berlin werden
bespielt. Kate Mosh wird Teil der Sinnbus Community. 2002 wird Martin
Diebel (Solarscape) neuer Schlagzeuger. Indieradio Stationen spielen
deutschlandweit Kate Mosh Songs, Konzerte außerhalb Berlins folgen.
Sebastian Cleemann aka Petula steigt als Beauftragter für Sounds,
Electronics und zweite Gitarre ein. Der Song »next dec« belegt Platz 8
bei den Tonspion »MP3 des Jahres« 2002 Charts.

is mourning indie rock, Kate Mosh develop a repertoire. Record a demo. Play shows.
The self-published EP »Flash Gulash« is released. In 2001 Kate Mosh are broadcast on
Radio Fritz, a video is shot, established Berlin clubs are being played. In 2002 Solarscape's
Martin Diebel becomes the new drummer. Indie radio stations all over Germany start playing
Kate Mosh songs, show outside Berlin follow. Sebastian Cleemann aka Petula enters the band,
becoming the sound/ electronic/ 2nd guitar guy. The »next dec« comes in eighth in Tonspion.de's
MP3-of-the-year charts. Kate Mosh's intoxicating live performance helps building up a loyal fan base.
